TRIXIE COSMETICS
TELETUBBIES COLLECTION
ITS TUBBY TIME!
In 2025, Trixie Cosmetics released a magical collection in collaboration with the Teletubbies.
This was both my first and the company’s first experience working with classic intellectual property.
INSPIRATION + PROCESS
INITIAL CONCEPTS
In the beginning of the product development process, I was tasked with coming up with possible concepts for the star of the collection: the eyeshadow palette. These concepts were inspired by both the learning/child development aspects of the Teletubbies show and its nostalgic nature. These ideas manifested in a concept that would find the Teletubbies interacting with a Trixie-inspired character in a pop-up book setting as well as one that would see the same narrative showcased in VHS form.
Ultimately, it was the decided the middle concept—inspired by the characters’ fluffy, playful appearance—would be chosen for initial concept development.
INITIAL CONCEPT SAMPLING
It was decided early that the initially proposed plush exterior would be cut due to production costs in favor of the lenticular effect that would show the Tubbies moving in and out of frame. Upon receiving the samples in person, the lenticular effect was also scrapped — the effect worked nicely, but it didn’t give the whimsical vibes the team was hoping for.
Iterations of Teletubbie character artwork from initial round to final collection artwork.
This was my first experience illustrating characters from a classic intellectual property. To say it was a dream come true to illustrate the Teletubbies is truly an understatement and I knew I had to do these iconic characters justice. Initial iterations of the characters were inspired by the eyes of–to me–classic childhood toys. The illustrations went through several rounds of revisions at the request of the Trixie Cosmetics and Wildbrain teams alike.
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
In addition to designing the palette, I also worked on all supplemental pieces of the collection: NooNoo lashes, a custom brush set, the accompanying red blush and a lip gloss inspired by the iconic Tubby Custard Machine.
The brush set features
custom handles that I modeled after the iconic antennas on the Teletubbie’s heads.
An initial sampling iteration of the brush set featuring embossed “tubby custard” splats.
PROPOSED MERCHANDISE
In addition to developing the designs for the collection, I was also tasked with imagining possible merchandise concepts to present to the Wildbrain team. All concepts that were presented went unproduced with the exception of the brush set, sans tubby custard bucket holder.
Tubby Custard Machine Purse
Would feature a tubby splat keychain, rainbow strap and embroidered details with external attachments (crown, “light” on rear of bag).
Pink Trixie-Inspired Teletubbie Headband
Designed to resemble proposed Trixie-inspired Teletubbie character. Made out of absorbent terrycloth material with internal structure to help antenna maintain shape/stability after extended use.
Antenna Brush Set
Brush set modeled after the Teletubbie’s antennas. Originally proposed to be sold with novelty Tubby Custard bucket holder (unproduced).
Charm Bracelet
Gold charm bracelet complete with charms inspired by the titular characters. The charms can also be added to the necklace for additional whimsy.
Interchangeable Baseball Cap
A baseball cap with the interactive twist of being able to swap out (included) Teletubbie antennas. The antennas would attach magnetically, similar to shoulder buddy plush toys made to sit securely on wearers shoulders.
Pendant Necklace
Necklace featuring Trixie Cosmetics logo and Teletubbies door/small logo pendants. Specifically designed to look hand-made/organic, as if the Teletubbies molded the pendants out of clay.
